Richmond City Youth Program Honored by City Council
The Richmond Public School's Mock Trial Team was honored by President Kathy Graziano of the Richmond City Council for the team's recent success at the National High School Mock Trial Championship State Competition. The competition is a school-based tournament-style competition in which teams argue both the plaintiff/prosecution and defense of a criminal or civil case.
This year the Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney coached students from Huguenot and Richmond Community High Schools. Students met weekly for practice from October-February and began bi-weekly practice in March, which equates to eighty hours of preparation.
Members from each school’s team merged to participate in the State championship in Williamsburg on March 29-30. During the competition, Jordan Hickman, a senior at Huguenot, won Outstanding Attorney, and Jamie Cosby, a sophomore at Richmond Community, won Best Outstanding witness. Mr. Hickman expressed the team's gratitude to the Commonwealth’s Attorney's office, the Greater Richmond Bar Foundation and the City of Richmond for supporting the program.
