The extraordinary history of jazz music has direct ties with our Justice system.  Jazz music and those who played critical roles in its development and growth helped promote racial equality and social consciousness long before the Civil Rights Movement.  The Greater Richmond Bar Foundation’s (GRBF) 9th Annual Jazz4Justice Concert will acknowledge the Justice Gap that still exists today while showcasing great jazz music by VCUArts Music students.  It will be held on St. Patrick’s Day, Friday, March 17, 2023, at the Vlahcevic Concert Hall in the VCU Singleton Center.

This year’s concert features the Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra with Abigail Cordova, vocals, the VCU Jazz Orchestra with faculty guest soloist Rex Richardson, trumpet, five Jazz4Justice Scholarship Recipients, and Guest Conductor Tracy Sears, Anchor and Reporter for WTVR CBS 6.

Doors open at 7 p.m. and the concert starts at 8 p.m.  Proceeds benefit the Greater Richmond Bar Foundation’s nonprofit mission to expand access to Justice and create scholarships for VCUArts Music Jazz Studies students.

We want to express how deeply grateful we are to VCUArts Music for continuing this wonderful tradition and allowing the concert to highlight the large gap and high need for access to legal services.
