In August of 2021, Judge Causey was appointed to the Virginia Court of Appeals, following an illustrious career as Central Virginia Legal Aid Society’s Managing Attorney in Richmond. Judge Causey made history as the first African American and first Legal Aid Attorney to serve as the President of the Virginia State Bar from 2017-2018.

***Each year, GRBF celebrates the good works of its volunteers and presents two awards to those who made outstanding contributions and exhibited strong leadership in the pro bono space. The George H. Hettrick Leadership Award recognizes outstanding efforts, innovative thinking, and the development of pro bono programs designed to reach unmet legal needs in our community, while the Benjamin R. Lacy, IV Volunteer of the Year Award recognizes volunteers dedicated to pro bono service.
